Today, President Obama announced a $90 million USD package for over the next 3 years to help Laos clear of yesterday’s bomb. It is a historical moment for the people of Laos and for many of its descendants displaced during the Vietnam war, known as the Secret War in Laos.  The $90 million USD fund is just like the President said, “to help Laos expand its work”, in clearing unexplosive ordinances during the Secret War in Laos.

During the Secret War, more than 2 million tons of bombs dropped on Laos, a small tiny landlocked country in South East Asia. Making Laos the most bombed country on Earth. Today, Laos is typically still at war with its past as a result of the United States action to recruit the Hmong to help prevent the Hochinminh Trail from North Vietnam to the South Vietnam capital.

As the President has said: “we want to be a partner” with Laos for the future, if not for its children to expand programs in nutritions and educations. Raises awareness for the rights of its people.
